There will be a lot if it is time for your annual spring cleaning and you have decided to get rid of any objects that are no longer needed or used frequently. Instead of throwing them out, you can repurpose them and give them new life. Continue reading to learn about the greatest applications for some of the most common objects discovered during the deep cleaning of your home and give them a try.

Flower pot hangers
If you have a small child or a toddler, you are certainly used to lots of stuffed animals and other toys all over the floor. However, you can reduce the amount of those by simply using a large flower pot hanger. Put some decorations of your child’s choice and hang the whole thing in your toddler’s room. Teach them to put away all their stuffed animals after they are done with their playtime.

Old patio furniture
You can get your old, unused furniture and make new pieces that fit your style better. For example, you can remove the lid and the side of an old drunk, add legs to it, and make a nice desk or a table. The best part is, you can use the rest to make other furniture pieces. Use old sewing machine tables. desks, tables, stools, and anything else you can think of to repurpose. Check the internet for DIY furniture ideas.

An old ladder pot hanger
If you have a nice old ladder you no longer use, grab some ropes, screws, and hooks and get to work. You can hang it from the ceiling in your kitchen and use small hooks to hang your pots and pans. If you have a big kitchen island, that would make a great statement piece to your interior design, no matter which style you have.

Old window frames/shutters
If you recently replaced your old windows with new ones, you will probably have a bunch of window frames to get rid of. However, instead of throwing them away, you can use those to separate any room in two. That works especially well with large window frames and in bigger areas, such as a basement, large attic, or shared office space.
The same thing can be done using old shutters. They are great since they allow air and make a light room divider, however, they are not see-through and they will keep your privacy safe.

Teapot flowers
If your old clay teapot has cracked but is simply too dear for you to throw away, give it a new life as a flower pot. You can put small plants, flowers, and cacti in it and keep your patio or room looking nice and cosy.

Bike chain pictures
If you just found your old bike and decided to bring it back to life, you will probably want to replace the chain as well. Do not throw away the old one yet! You can use it to easily frame any picture at home. Bike chains are flexible and will perfectly fit any picture size. You may make these frames as gifts using hot-melt glue and a little patience. Simply get a plain picture frame from a second-hand store and glue a well-cleaned bike chain around the corners. Just like that, the reused materials will offer a unique space for you to save your favourite memories.

Piano bar
Pianos are certainly a fancy object one might have at home. Even if they are extremely nice and often expensive, pianos also have their life span. If you have an old piano that is no longer working and cannot be repaired, you are probably planning on getting rid of it. How about you use it to make a nice drink or breakfast bar for your kitchen or living room? Place a flat piece of marble or wood in the keys area and another one on top of it. You can use the bottom one as the eating/drinking area, and the top one for keeping glasses, bottles, and other things you may want to use. Place two stools in front of it and you are done.

Drawer organisers
We already mentioned one drawer organiser, but how many are too many? If your office desk drawer is always messy and you can’t seem to find anything, grab a muffin pan and place it inside. The small holes will keep your tiny items separate and organised well enough so that you no longer struggle with finding anything.

Ice cube trays to organise
Forget about keeping your many screws, nails, and other small hardware. Grab some ice cube trays and spend 10-20 minutes separating all your tiny tools into the different cells of the tray. You can also put together a small case from scrap plywood. That way you will be able to carry everything you need to the job and keep it organised.
The post Repurposing items in the best way possible.pt2 first appeared on Best Cleaners London.

If you regularly invite friends over for a drink, you may be familiar with alcohol stains. While they are easy to get rid of, they may require time and effort. Of course, depending on the type of alcohol, cleaning methods may vary.
Beer stains are tannin and water-based, making removal relatively simple, however liquor-based mixed drinks frequently contain juices or dyed additives, making those stains more difficult to remove. Of course, red wine always poses more of a stain removal problem than white wine.

The good news is that you will only need simple household ingredients you most likely already have at home. You can prepare your distilled white vinegar, dishwashing liquid, and oxygen-based bleach.

This article will show you how to easily get rid of liquor and alcohol stains from your carpet, clothing, and other fabrics. If the fabric you are about to treat is vintage or silk, it is best to call a professional in order to avoid damage.

Cleaning alcohol stains from upholstery

If you were relaxing on the sofa after a long day at work and accidentally spilled some of your drink on it, hurry up and follow these steps to get rid of the stain.

Remove as much moisture as possible from the stained area – Grab a white paper towel and absorb as much of the liquid as possible. Use fresh towels as you continue to blot the liquid. Make sure you do not rub it in since that may cause it to spread.

Mix a cleaning solution – In a small bowl, mix 1 tablespoon of dishwashing liquid detergent, ½ cup of distilled white vinegar, and 2 cups of warm water.

Treat the stain – Dip a clean cloth in the cleaning solution and wring it well until it is no longer dripping. Begin working it in the stain (always start at the outer edge and work your way toward the centre). Use a white cloth to prevent accidental dye transfer. Make sure you do not oversaturate the upholstery piece.

Rinse the area well – Fill a bowl with plain water. Dip a clean cloth in it and wring it well. Again, it should not be dripping but just damp. Gently wipe the cleaned area to remove soapy residue (make sure you get rid of all of it – it may attract soil and grime in the future).

Air dry and vacuum the area.

Cleaning tough stains – If the drink you spilled contained some food dyes it will probably require additional steps. Follow the guidelines on the product package to create a solution of oxygen-based bleach powder and warm water.
Work the oxygen bleach solution into the fabric with a soft-bristled brush. Do not oversaturate the fabric!
Allow it to sit for at least an hour before wiping the moisture away with a dry cloth.
Allow the fabric to air-dry before repeating the process with a fresh solution of oxygen bleach and water if necessary until all of the stains are removed.

Cleaning alcohol stains from carpets – Similar to the upholstery method, treating the stains as soon as possible will ensure the best results possible.

Blot as much of the liquid as possible – Grab a paper towel or a clean white cloth and blot as much of the moisture as possible.

Mix a vinegar solution and apply it – Mix ½ cup of distilled white vinegar and 1 cup of warm water. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and apply it to the stained area of the carpet. Let it sit for about 10 minutes, then blot it away and move to the next step.

Mix a soapy solution – Fill a bowl with warm water and add a few drops of dishwashing liquid. Dip a cloth in the cleaning mixture and gently scrub the stain starting at the outer edges and working your way toward the centre.

Rinse and dry – Dip a clean cloth in plain water, wring it until it is not dripping and gently scrub the stained area until all of the soapy residue is gone. Allow it to air dry completely, then vacuum the whole surface of the carpet to lift the fibres.

Additional tips on cleaning alcohol stains from carpets and upholstery:

You can use a commercial carpet or upholstery cleaner to treat alcohol stains.

If you have several stains or splatters all over the carpet, you may want to clean the whole thing in order to make sure the colour remains even.

Do not let the stain sit. The sooner you start treating it, the easier it will be to get rid of.

Do not rub the stain. Instead, blot it – that way you will prevent its spreading.

If you are not sure how to approach a certain stain or you are worried that you may ruin your upholstery or carpet, it is best to call a professional company. They will know exactly how to treat the particular fabric and the specific type of stain.
The post Cleaning alcohol stains from clothing and carpets first appeared on Best Cleaners London.

Nowadays a toilet is not a luxury – it is a necessity. Unfortunately, as lovely as it is to have a toilet at home, it is common to experience all kinds of issues with it. When there is a problem with the toilet, it is of crucial importance to determine what is causing the problem and address it as soon as possible. Clogged toilets are typically blamed on someone who placed too much toilet paper in the toilet bowl before flushing.
Toilets can develop drain clogs for a variety of causes, most of which include partial or complete obstruction in one of the drain system’s numerous components: the toilet trap, the branch drain line, the vent pipe, or the main sewer line. The most simple solution for a blocked toilet is to simply plunge the toilet bowl; however, if a toilet clogs regularly, even with an acceptable amount of toilet paper and waste, there may be a larger problem to fix.

Keep reading to find out what the most common causes of clogged toilets are and how to quickly resolve any issues.

Flushing wipes, paper towels, and other items that do not belong in the drain.
It’s a common misperception that certain goods can be safely flushed down the toilet. Wipes, for example, even those labelled as flushable wipes, cause substantial problems in the domestic plumbing system, and they are a major issue in the larger municipal sewage system. Paper towels are another product that appears to be flushable, but most paper towel types are designed to resist tearing even when totally saturated. Because of their physical resistance, they are difficult to break down and travel through the drain pipe. Disposable cloths, menstrual products, napkins, ear swabs, and hair are some of the most popular items flushed down the toilet, but it’s vital to remember that the toilet is not a garbage can. It is not meant to handle these substances, and flushing them frequently can result in clogs in the toilet or further down the line, causing persistent problems for the entire plumbing system.

To fix those: You can always plunge the toilet or use a toilet bowl snake. However, if this is the issue, you may need to speak to the members of your household. If they don’t change their habits, the clogging will keep occurring. Place rubbish bins in every bathroom and make sure everyone is using them.

A blocked toilet trap.
The toilet outlet enters a curved channel inside the porcelain base of the toilet. It is designed to contain standing water and prevent odorous sewer gases from leaking through the toilet bowl into the house. This is the feature that maintains a tiny quantity of standing water in the bowl after each flush. This S- or P-shaped part of the porcelain bowl links the toilet to the drain pipes in the residence. In most situations, the built-in trap of the toilet base can be identified by looking at it from the side, where the outlines of the trap can be seen. The most common cause of toilet clogs is a blockage in the curved part of the porcelain toilet base. When too much debris is forced through the toilet bowl, the trap section frequently becomes clogged. When the toilet trap is just partially blocked, the toilet will still flush, but the water will drain slower than usual. However, as any homeowner will discover, if the toilet bowl overflows fully, pouring wastewater down onto the bathroom floor, partial clogs have most likely progressed to complete jams.
To fix this issue: You can also use a plunger or a toilet bowl snake to push through the clogging matter or simply help break it apart.

Sewer line issues
The primary sewer line that exits the home either runs underground to a municipal sewer system or to a septic tank. The sewer line is relatively well-protected against rain, sleet, snow, and freezing due to its underground location; however, it is sensitive to tree roots, which can wrap around or puncture the pipe. When the main sewage line is ruptured or crushed, the exit to the septic tank or municipal sewer system becomes constrained, causing toilets and other plumbing fixtures to drain slowly or not at all. Furthermore, rocks, dirt, and other debris can enter the line through the punctures, causing additional drainage issues. It is easy to determine if that is the cause of clogging since it will affect more than one bathroom/drain.

How to fix: Depending on the severity of the case, and the exact reason, you may need to take different approaches. In general, it is best to call a professional company to take care of it. If there are branches puncturing your pipelines, they will easily clear them and repair the issue. For such cases, we suggest you don’t attempt anything on your own since you may actually make the issue worse and cause a lot more trouble.
The post Does your toilet keep clogging? If you love baking, a silicone baking mat will be your best friend. It protects cookie and baking sheets from hard-to-remove stains and other spills. They also prevent foods from sticking and burning. If you have such a handy tool, with proper maintenance, you will be able to enjoy it for many years.

The mats were designed in the 60s and combine fibreglass mesh and silicone coating that withstand extremely low and high temperatures. These baking mats do not absorb oil and other food residue and can be used many times. However, they need proper cleaning once in a while in order to protect their non-stick properties.

Here are some of the best qualities that silicone baking mats have:

Keeping cookie and baking sheets neat and clean.

Avoiding sticking while baking or reheating foods in the oven.

Replacing parchment paper or non-stick aluminium foil on baking sheets to reduce waste.

On a countertop, kneading or rolling out dough.

Keeping pie plates and cake rings from splattering on baking sheets.

Food oils must be entirely removed from silicone baking mats and other forms of silicone bakeware after use, otherwise, the oils may build up and become sticky. When this happens, food particles begin to adhere to the silicone mat, rendering it ineffective. Keep reading to learn how to easily maintain your silicone baking mats.

Make sure you wash your silicone baking mats after every use. Hand washing is preferred, even though the mats can be cleaned in the dishwasher. By gently cleaning them manually you will help prolong their life. After using a mat for a while, it may begin to get sticky even if you regularly clean it. When this happens, a more thorough cleaning is required. In this article, we will share the best way of doing that.

Regularly clean your silicone baking mat

In a sink of warm water, wash the mats with a dishwashing detergent that contains a degreaser. Wipe off both sides of the mat with a non-abrasive sponge. Rinse well with warm water. Dry the silicone mat using a lint-free microfiber dish towel or hang it to dry, which could take several hours. Never put away wet or moist baking mats.
Choose a dishwasher detergent that does not include chlorine bleach to clean the mats. Excessive chlorine bleaching on silicone might degrade the surface. Make sure the mat is not crumpled before placing it in the dishwasher rack. If you must fold it, make a slight curve to avoid damage.

Do a hot water soak to remove built-up grease and sticky residue

Fill a basin or large bucket with hot water to remove excess oils from the mat. Add 1 teaspoon of a degreasing dishwasher detergent. Swish your hands through the water while wearing rubber gloves to scatter the detergent, then add the silicone baking mat.
Allow the mat to soak for at least 30 minutes or up to an hour. Remove the cooled water. Fill the sink with hot water from the faucet. Scrub both sides of the mat with a non-abrasive sponge and a few drops of dishwashing soap. Rinse in hot water and wipe away with a clean dry microfiber cloth. Rub your fingers over the mat to check for any leftover sticky residue. If the mat is still sticky, move on to the next step.

Use the oven and some baking soda

Heat the oven up to 170 degrees Celsius. Once it is fully heated, place the silicone mat inside. Leave it in for about 10 minutes – this should be enough to soften the residue. Get the mat out of the oven and sprinkle it with water and enough baking soda so that a thin paste covers the surface. Allow the baking soda to dry completely. Fill the sink with warm water and a few drops of dishwashing liquid once the baking soda has dried. Wipe the mat down with a non-abrasive sponge to clean it. Rinse with warm water and thoroughly dry. Feel for any lingering sticky places on the mat. Clean those places with a damp sponge and a dab of dry baking soda. Allow the mat to completely dry before storing it away.

For though stains and burns

While stains will not damage the baking mat’s effectiveness, you may want to clean any food stains with hydrogen peroxide, a slow-acting bleaching chemical. Pour enough 3% hydrogen peroxide to cover the affected area into a bucket or sink. Allow it to soak for 24 hours. Before using, thoroughly rinse it.
Clean burnt silicone bakeware by immersing it in a sink filled halfway with hot water and distilled vinegar. Allow it to soak in the liquid for an hour before rinsing. This procedure can also be used to remove persistent food stains.

Extra tips on cleaning a silicone baking mat:

Always use a dishwashing liquid that contains degreasing components.

Do not use any abrasive cleaners or sponges on the silicone. They may scratch the surface and prevent the mat from being as non-stick as it is supposed to be.

Wash the mat with hot water and dishwashing liquid after every use to prevent oils from building up.

Wool coats are a winter staple that is luxurious and warm. Whether you like a classic wool peacoat or a luxurious cashmere trench coat, you will need to take special care of it. Even though cleaning wool coats may seem hard, you can actually do that at home using the correct tools and methods. The key to properly do that is knowing the correct method. That includes using a gentle wool cleaning solution, gentle agitation, and low water temperature.
Hand-washing a wool coat is often recommended. Even those that say ‘’dry cleaning recommended’’ on their care label, can be hand-washed. Do not confuse this label with the one that says ‘’dry cleaning only’’. Those should never be cleaned at home. Always bring them to a professional dry cleaner. Their interfacing, shoulder padding, and lining may be destroyed or deformed when washed so do not take the risk.

Here is how to properly wash your wool coat in a few simple steps

Remove loose soil – Brushing a wool coat with a clothes brush will remove most of the dust, hairs, and grime from its surface. Hang the coat on a strong hanger and brush down each section to remove loose soil. Always start at the shoulders and work your way down.

Mix a cleaning solution to spot treat the coat – Make a cleaning solution with ½ cup of warm water and 1 teaspoon of a gentle wool wash, Castile soap, or a homemade wool wash. Gently rub any obvious dirt stains or body soil at the collar, cuffs, or armpits. Use a clean white cloth dipped in the cleaning solution. Allow it to work for at least 10 minutes before washing the coat. This time will allow the wool wash to break down any grime.

Prepare a hand-washing cleaning solution – The coat can be hand washed in the bathtub, a large sink, or a plastic storage tub. Whatever vessel you choose, make sure it is spotless and very clean, as well as free of bleach or residue. Fill the tub/sink with lukewarm water and add the wool wash. You will need ¼-½ cup of cleaning solution for a bathtub.

Soak the wool coat – Place the coat in the cleaning solution. Make sure it is fully submerged and it has time to move around. Swish it around and let it soak for about 30 minutes. Do not leave it in the water for more than an hour.

Squeeze the dirt away – After you are done soaking your coat, gently stir the fabric with your hands. Squeeze each section of the coat to help remove soil and grime. Excessive twisting or scrubbing of the coat will cause the wool fibres to become distorted or felt together so make sure you avoid it.

Rinse well – Dispose of the soapy solution and fill the tub with fresh water. Squeeze out all suds before placing the coat back in the vessel. Squeeze the coat and repeat dipping and draining it until no more soap residue can be found on it. You may need to replace the water during this process.

Get rid of moisture – Lift the coat from the water and gently squeeze out the excess moisture. Begin at the top of the coat. Do not wring it – this may damage the fibres. Continue squeezing the coat until it is no longer dripping. Place several thick towels on a flat surface and place the coat on top of them. Smooth it out as much as possible. To absorb the rest of the moisture, toll the towels with the coat inside. You may need to replace the towels if the coat is extremely damp.

Never place wool clothes in the dryer – the high temperature will cause shrinking. Let the coat lay flat on the towels for up to 48 hours. You can turn the coat or replace the towels if they get wet.

Treating stains on wool coats

Treat fresh stains as soon as possible. The best approach is to combine a tiny amount of water and a bit of wool wash, then moisten and gently rub the stain with a clean white cloth and the solution. Allow it to work on the stained area for at least 10 minutes, then proceed with the regular cleaning of the coat.

Ironing wool coats

Once your coat is dry, it will probably require some ironing or steaming to get rid of creases and sharpen trims and labels. Use a firm ironing board and a pressing cloth to avoid damage. Make sure you use a steam iron at a low temperature when ironing wool.
Hang the coat on a large hanger and follow the steamer’s instructions as you are using it. Allow pressed and steamed coats to completely dry before wearing or storing them. You will prevent wrinkles from reoccurring.
The post Thoroughly cleaning a wool coat that is not for dry-cleaning only first appeared on Best Cleaners London.
