About Clapham South
Clapham South[/caption]Lying between Balham and Clapham Commons is the tube station of Clapham South lying on the Northern Line of London Underground. The station finds location at the corner of Nightingale Lane and the Balham Hill, and is both on the Travelcard zones 2 and 3.
Charles Holden had designed the station. The railway station had started on September 13, 1926. It was the first station in the Morden extension of City and south railways of London. Before the station had opened other names were suggested for it such as Nightingale Lane and Balham North.
The Westbury court was added to this architecture in the mid 1930’s. There are other such apartments atop the station. There is also a parade of shops alongside the Balham hill and these are part of the developments that took place in a similar style.
