About Streatham
The district of Streatham, at a distance of five miles from Charing Cross, is located in southern London. The district situated in the northern side is the Streatham Hill while the two districts located in the south are Streatham Vale and Streatham Common. Etymologically, the name, Streatham, stands for “hamlet” on “street”.
The area remained a village and did not undergo developments until the eighteenth century. There were a number of springs in the area that supposedly had healing properties and the place was most likely named after these.

In the later half of the 19th century only limited development started in the Sunnyhill Road and Wellfield Road. The area witnessed fast development only after the introduction of the Streatham Hill railway station along with the Crystal Palace Railway in the year 1856.
