Repurposing items in the best way possible

If it is time for your annual spring cleaning and you have decided to get rid of all items that are unneeded or not frequently used anymore, there will be a lot. However, instead of tossing them away, you can reuse those items and give them a new life. Keep reading to find out what are the best uses for some of the most common objects found during the deep cleaning of your house and give them a try.

Armrests for your desk
If you spend long hours at your desk and easily get tired, you surely could use some wrist rests. Grab the old pool noodles you found in the garage that you don’t need anymore and use them to make your desk armrests. Measure the noodle and mark the line where you want to cut it. Use a sharp utility knife to cut the noodle lengthwise. You can use a double adhesive tape at the bottom of the noodles to prevent them from slipping.

Knife storage
Who says functional storage has to be ugly? This easy-to-make DIY knife block is fashioned from old books. Simply select several distinctive books in your favourite colour scheme and carefully bind them together with twine to make the ideal home for all of your kitchen knives. This is a versatile hack because you can design different colour schemes dependent on the seasons and holidays. The best part is, you can still reuse your books and read them again whenever you want to. Just make sure you don’t place any wet knives in them.

Containers, containers
Save your glass and plastic containers. Jars, sealed boxes, and other reusable containers can come in pretty handy when it comes to storing certain things. If you make your own jam, honey, peanut butter, or cheese, you can use them in the kitchen. Otherwise, you can keep small screws and nails inside, especially because they are made of glass and you will easily be able to see what is inside. Make sure you label what’s inside, even if they are see-through.

Extension cord and cable storage
If you have a lot of cables you are probably tired of them tangling and becoming a mess. If you keep struggling with this issue, you may want to keep your old toilet paper and kitchen paper rolls. Use the tubes to store your cables and make sure you write the length of the cord on it. Once you store them in the paper rolls, you can chuck them in a drawer or a big box, and rest assured that you will be able to easily find a cable next time you need one.

Cleaning with a toothbrush
You have probably heard about cleaning with an old toothbrush. However, did you ever consider cleaning with your old electric toothbrush? If you have one, you can spare yourself the time and effort you would otherwise spend on scrubbing. The small brush head of electric toothbrushes also makes them perfect for small nooks and crannies, as well as all kinds of hard-to-reach places. The powerful vibrations will quickly loosen grime and dirt.

Flour pots
If you have an old flour sifter, you can use it as a flower pot. Those are great for smaller plants and the handle will allow you to easily hang or attach them to different surfaces. Their unique looks make them perfect for cottage-style interior design, as well as some industrial designs. If you like the looks of those but don’t have any, make a trip to the second-hand store, they probably have lots of them.

Oil bottle organiser
Once you fill up your vehicle’s oil and the bottle is all empty, cut it in half and use the bottom part as an organiser for your drawer. They are usually made of hard plastic and their square shape will make them perfect to fit and organise. You can use them for small hair ties, packaged herbs, nails, tools, office supplies, and anything else that is small enough to make a mess in a drawer. You can also grab some wooden planks and build yourself a wall organiser. Measure all the cutouts you want to fit and build a frame big enough. Place them inside, screw them safely and hang the whole thing on the wall.

Spring flower wall
If you have an old spring mattress, do not throw it away. First of all, they are large and heavy and that makes them hard to dispose of. However, if you have a large balcony, patio, or garden, you can easily turn one into a beautiful flower wall. Hang the spring mattress on the side of a wall or a fence. If you want to change its finish, spray it with silver or gold paint. Make sure you use strong screws and do not overload the springs with too many flower pots.
